Course Description

A continuation of a broad survey of the historical and cultural development of China and Japan from the 13th century to the present. Emphasis is on the cultural development during this period and how the respective countries deal with foreign intrusions and intended colonialism. Modernization, emergence of new political organizations, ideology, and nationalism in these countries and the ramifications on contemporary Asian-Americans are examined.
