Program Overview

The Associate in Arts Degree in Economics for Transfer is intended for students interesting in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Economics. The degree seeks to expose students to the core principles and concepts in the field of Economics and provides students with an understanding and appreciation of the institutions, government policies, and international factors that impact the U.S. economy. It provides students with the lower division foundations in economics and mathematics necessary to major in economics at a CSU. An Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College prepares students for transfer to a baccalaureate institution to obtain a degree in Economics or a closely related discipline. Students completing an AA-T degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that accepts the AA-T will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor's degree. This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or university or a college that is not part of the CSU system. Students should consult with a Skyline College counselor for further information on university admissions and transfer requirements. The Associate in Arts Degree in Economics for Transfer requires the completion of the following requirements: Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education " Breadth Requirements. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. (2) Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0." Students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major.
