Course Description

This course is organized around the R.A.M.P. chemical safety concept - Recognize hazards, Assess the risks from the hazards, Minimize and manage the risks, and Prepare for the unexpected and emergencies. Under this framework, students will be introduced to international, federal, and state laboratory safety regulatory standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regulations for Laboratories. Standard chemical safety protocols and skills, such as the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), implementing standards from The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) literacy, will be emphasized.
