Program Learning Outcomes

Students completing this program will be able to:

Communicate their understanding of education and human development concepts as it relates to school age learning, recreation and out of school time, through written, oral and visual presentations in various professional and academic contexts.
Demonstrates an understanding of education and human development theories, trends and needs of the school age child by maintaining healthy, safe, respectful, challenging and culturally responsive environments.
Critically assess their own teaching and learning experiences through critical thinking and reflection that will guide and inform their practice with school age children in various settings including recreation and after school programs.

Program Overview

The Education and Human Development program is designed to meet the needs of people planning for a career working with children from birth through school-age. Students earning the Youth and After School Certificate will focus on school age children in diverse settings including, but not limited to, recreation and health and academic enrichment. The program emphasizes current research and practical application involving issues related to youth learning and development.
