SparkPoint at Cañada College is a financial education and coaching support service program that provides students with the tools to achieve financial stability. Through partnerships with a broad range of organizations and funders, SparkPoint at Cañada College brings added value to the services and resources that Cañada College offers students and community members. Affiliated with United Way Bay Area, SparkPoint at Cañada College features financial coaches that students and others utilize like personal trainers to achieve financial fitness. Students work one-on-one with their personal financial coach to:
- Explore food and housing resources
- Review credit scores and reports
- Create a balanced budget
- Pay off debt and save money
- Locate free and low-cost banking relationships
- Screen for public benefits when eligible (including CalFresh)
- Access résumé and interview prep
- Find free income tax assistance
- Obtain transportation assistance
Transportation Assistance
SparkPoint supports students and community members with transportation assistance:
- Way2Go Pass: Eligible students are awarded a Clipper Card that provides free unlimited SamTrans bus rides. This Clipper Card is valid for the entire school year.
- Community Transportation Benefits: Eligible students can also receive either a $200 Clipper Card for SamTrans, Caltain or BART or a $200 FasTrak transponder for tolls and express lanes.
Food Support
SparkPoint at Cañada College provides several resources that support students and community members with the rising cost of food. Our services include:
- Study Snacks: Students can pick up a quick snack at baskets located throughout student service areas.
- Grab and Go Sandwiches: Students can pick up a Grab and Go sandwich from refrigerators found in Buildings 9 and 13.
- Cañada Market: Our full-service food market provides FREE healthy and nutritious food for students and community members. The Food Market is located on the second floor in Building 5, Room 222. For more information, please visit: canadacollege.edu/sparkpoint/food
- Food Lockers: Cañada College provides evening students access to pick up Food Market items through the Food Lockers located in Building 13 near Room 240. Simply order your food through the SparkPoint website, receive your code and visit our on-campus lockers to pick up your FREE food items.
- Food Distribution: The FREE Food Distribution is held on campus weekly and is open to students, staff, and the community. No reservations are required. For more information, please visit: canadacollege.edu/sparkpoint
Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley partners with SparkPoint at Cañada College to provide FREE healthy and nutritious food for the SparkPoint Market, Food Lockers and Food Distribution.
